Arctic Grayling are Watta Lake's
most beautiful sport fish. With colors ranging from
silver to purple and magenta, pectoral, pelvic and
tail fins translucently tipped, and an incredibly
large and colorful dorsal fin that unfolds to show
amazing coloration similar to butterflies or peacocks,
the Grayling stands out among all species. The Arctic
Grayling are graceful when followed in the eddies
and pools of the Beaulieau River and although very
delicate, they will offere some mentionable fishing
battles and often some fantastic above surface aerial
shows.
Watta Lake has two areas for fishing
Grayling. A short hike (10-15 minutes) will bring
you to a water fall where the odd Grayling will take
from whirling, oxygen rich, pools aside the powerful
rushing water. A boat trip (about 45 minutes) will
take you to the Beaulieu River where Grayling thrive
in eddies and rock crevices below. Some afternoons
will produce catches of 20 or more.
Arctic Grayling can be pursued effectively
with flies or spinners and wether your an accomplished
flyfisher or a novice angler, you will catch Grayling.
The river is sheltered and a great way to spend an
afternoon in any kind of weather. The boat ride from
shorelunch island, the 15-20 minute hike afterward
in safe and easily managed terrain, and the scenic
area all lend themselves to a wonderful, natural experience
you'll have with nature in complete isolation.
