The Lake Whitefish are pound for pound, the strongest sport fish and offer one of the most exhilarating and rewarding fishing experiences at Watta. They are typically 2-3lbs and are a narrow, deep bodied fish with smooth slippery scales. Whitefish are incredible tough and quick for their size and use the powerfull waterfalls and rapids to add and aid in their incredible fighting skills. At Watta, these fish are dormant and seem non-existent till mid-August. The odd one might show up on your line while fishing for Arctic Grayling down at the Beaulieau River but your guaranteed action mid to late August till the end of Watta's fishing season in September.

   The Whitefish pool up in the base of the falls just past the white turbulent water in the currents that ripple. They are spawning and eating and there are most likely thousands of them. You can hike from the lodge, take a boat across the small bay and hike in on the other side of the wattafalls, or a guide can take you right into the action in a lund boat with a small engine. The boat has a slight advantage and is best for beginners. The shores need practice and learning but you will discover a casting and presentation method and battle many of the little scrappers (almost every cast at times).

   When they 'move' or return to the base of the falls the action is intermittent but very consistent. Afternoon and night are equally the best times of the day to fish. Using ultra light equipment to ensure far and accurate casting with small spinners and tackle similar to that used for 'arcticgrayling' will yeild large numbers of fish on's!!!. Not catches though. The whitefish are crafty, stealthy, and quite often jump the line. Light tackle, small lures and the small, soft, toothless mouths of the fish all combine to give whitefish an advantage equally as good as the anglers.

    The fishing at the 'Wattafalls' is one of the greatest experiences a sport or recreational angler could have. Strong fish with endless stamina using strong currents requiring your attention at every stage and the battle varies instantly from deep pools to surface acrobats. It's absolatutely exhilarating to see and take part in and it all happens in an amazingly beautiful and refreshing setting. Whitefish are Watta's perk sport fish and within the wattafalls are a very unique and exclusive experience.
